About MortgageWise
Last updated 2026-10-21.
MortgageWise is a free, independent guide to buying, selling, switching and building a home in the Republic of Ireland. It is part of the StampWise family of independent Irish guides: StampWise for immigration, EmploymentWise for work, CourtsWise for the District Court, and others.
What it does
It answers the three questions everyone asks, in plain English: how much can I borrow, what will it all cost, and who do I need. The journeys on the start page set out each step in order. The tools give you your own numbers from the published rules. The guides say what happens next. The professionals pages say who does what, what they cost, and the register to check before you hire anyone.
What it is not
MortgageWise is not a lender, a mortgage broker, a credit or insurance intermediary, a solicitor, a tax adviser or a financial adviser. It is not connected with the Central Bank of Ireland, Revenue, the Housing Agency, any local authority, any lender or any Government department. No page here says what a lender will offer you, what a home is worth, or what is right for your own money. For that, talk to a solicitor and to a mortgage advisor regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland.
How every figure is checked
Every rule and figure lives in one rules file, with the Act or operator it comes from, the sources and the date it was checked. The sources page lists all of them. Figures announced but not yet law (a Budget measure before the Finance Act) are marked as announced. The changes page keeps what is in force apart from what is coming, and the updates log records every change by date.
Plain language
Every page is written to be understood on the first read by someone who has never bought a home. Where a term has to be used, the glossary explains it in a sentence or two.
