MortgageWise gives general information about buying, selling, switching and building a home in the Republic of Ireland. It is not financial, legal or tax advice, and nothing on it is a recommendation to take or not take any product, lender or professional.

The tools

Each calculator applies the published rules to the figures you enter. It cannot see your bank statements, your credit record or the home you want to buy, so it cannot say what a lender will offer you. A lender’s own tests (a stress rate, net disposable income, your age at the end of the term) sit on top of the Central Bank limits. A result is a ceiling or an estimate, never an offer, a valuation or a quote.

The figures

Every figure carries the date it was checked and the source it came from. Rates, schemes and tax rules change, sometimes at short notice. Figures announced in a Budget are marked as announced until the Finance Act makes them law. Where a page and the source differ, the source is right. The sources page lists them all.

The professionals

The firms we pass enquiries to are on their official registers, but MortgageWise does not vouch for their work and is not a party to any contract between you and them. Get written quotes, check the register yourself, and ask the questions on each profession’s page.

Before you sign

Talk to a solicitor before you sign a contract. For advice on a mortgage, talk to a mortgage advisor or lender regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland. For tax, to Revenue or a tax adviser. If money is tight, MABS is free.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, MortgageWise accepts no liability for loss arising from reliance on this site. See the terms of use.
