Would the council mortgage work for me?

Checked 21 Oct 2026the Housing Loans Regulations 2021 as amended by the Housing Loans (Amendment) Regulations 2026.

The Local Authority Home Loan is a mortgage from your council for people the banks have turned down. Enter your income, your county and the price. The tool checks the income limit and the price ceiling, shows the most the council lends, and works out the repayment at the scheme's fixed rate.

You and the home

Who is applying, and what are you buying?

The tool checks the income limit, the price ceiling and the two-refusals rule. The council also checks your age, your right to live and work here, your credit record and whether you can afford the repayments. It is not an offer of a loan.

Information, not advice. This tool applies the published rules to the figures you enter. It does not say what a lender will offer you, what a home is worth, or what is right for your money. Everything runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent to this site. Last checked 2026-10-21. MortgageWise is an independent site, not connected with the Central Bank of Ireland, Revenue, the Housing Agency, any local authority, any lender or any Government department. It is not a lender, a mortgage broker, a credit or insurance intermediary, a solicitor, a tax adviser or a financial adviser. It covers the Republic of Ireland only. Before you sign anything, talk to a solicitor and, for advice on a mortgage, to an advisor regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland.
